It’s that glorious time of year — time to take your RV out of storage and get it back on the road where it belongs! While it’s tempting to hit the open trail as soon as possible, you’ll want to do some maintenance on it first. Sitting in storage all those months can affect your rig and you’ll want to tend to it to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience once you start traveling again. The process isn’t hard once you know all the steps, which we discuss below.
Air Out Your RV
While you do the following inspection process, you’ll want to multitask by airing out your RV. Open all the doors, windows, cabinets, slide-outs, and awnings.
Check The Exterior
As your RV sits in storage, a layer of dust and grime often accumulates on the exterior. This can not only look unappealing, but that filth can eventually cause damage when left to sit long enough. If you notice any build-up, you’ll want to give your rig a wash.
Before you douse your RV with water, you’ll want to make sure the integrity of everything is still standing strong. Make sure there aren’t any cracking seams or sealant wearing away. Check out the corners and sidewalls for holes. You don’t want to wash your camper only to get a bunch of moisture inside it due to holes and leaks!
Check The Interior
Walk around inside your camper and see if you can spot any issues. It’s tedious, but you’ll want to inspect the nooks and crannies for any critters who made your warm RV their home over the cold winter months. Open windows and doors to scope out squeaky hinges. See if you notice signs of water damage. Test your lights and appliances to ensure nothing needs repair.
